Larry Dwayne Green Obituary

Larry Dewayne Green passed away peacefully in the hospital around family on January 19

2026, in Jacksonville, Fl. He was 56 years old.

Larry was born November 04, 1969 to the late Mary Ann Green in Jacksonville, FL where he

was born, raised and lived his entire life.

Larry was an affectionate, hardworking, dedicated, caring man who always said and told

family and friends he loves them. He gave the best hugs and always had the time for

people no matter how he was feeling and what was going on in his day. He always puts the

needs of others ahead of his own. Larry was known for his giving spirit and great sense of

humor and loved to tell a joke or two and always the life and soul of the party. He would

come up with things in his head that no one ever heard of, but that would make you laugh

but had meaning and sense to it. Larry always lend a helping hand to family and friends and

gave words of comfort to whomever needed it. Whether it was a quick chat or meet up, you

always felt loved after spending time with Larry. He would always be a listening ear

whenever it was needed.

Growing up, Larry was a fun- loving son who grew up in the church but had challenges

growing up but overcame them with positive role models in his life, which included his

uncle and aunt Cornelius and Bessie Toms , Sara Ivory , Carolyn Johnson his aunt which

also included others as well. Larry attended Lake Shore Elementary and Lee High School.

Larry enjoyed playing with his friends from his neighborhood and school as well as his

cousins and brothers and his God-sister. Being the oldest brother in the family, he took his

role with great pride and being a protector, provider, and will fight for his family when

needed. Larry also was in Boy Scout. He was the type of person if he rocked with you; he

got you. As Larry got older, he had role models that came into his life to help him with life

skills who were Ms. JoAnn Christian, Ms. Dorothy and the late Robert Lee Crosby and

others.

Larry was passionate about his role in construction, which he did for several years until he

was unable to work due to his medical condition. In his spare time, he would do jobs such

as fixing cars, house repairs and etc. to make money to provide and support for his family.

Larry was a devoted Christian who cherished his Bible and the teaching of Jesus Christ. He

was baptized and attended Unity Christian Church in Jacksonville and took solace in

knowing the Lord. His favorite bible verses were Psalm 23.

In 1993 Larry met and fell in love with Sonya, and they were married in 1998. They spent

a lot of time together when they were not working. Together they have 4 kids and 7

grandkids. Larry was a devoted and loving father and grandfather that taught his kids the

value of hard work and life lessons he imported to them. One of his favorite phases that he

stilled in them was “you are a Green and Green don’t cry, and we don’t back down from

nothing”. He took great pride in being a parent and grandfather like seeing his only first-

born daughter and first-born son graduate from high school. Going to see his youngest two

boys' karate tournament and especially having the father and daughter dance during her

wedding. Larry treasured his time with his grandkids like playing and scaring them and

never wasted time dropping them off home to their mother.

When I Am Gone

When I am gone, release me – let me go

I have so many things to see and do

You must not tie yourself to me with tears

Be happy that we had so many years I gave you love

You can only guess , how much you gave me in happiness

I thank you for the love each have shown,

But now it is time I traveled alone

So grieve a while for me if grieve you must,

then let your grief be comforted by trust

It is only for a while that we must part

so bless those memories within your heart

I will not be far away, for life goes on

so if you need me , call and I will come

Though you cannot see or touch me, I will be near

And if you listen with your heart , you will hear

All of my love around you , soft and clear

Then when you must come this way alone,

I will greet you with a smile and “Welcome Home”
