Anisa McGreevy, 58, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away leaving behind a legacy of unconditional love, fierce loyalty, and a heart that never knew how to give up on the people she cared about. To know Anisa was to be known, welcomed, and accepted exactly as you were.
Born with a nurturing spirit, Anisa lived her life as a protector and caretaker. She was the kind of person who opened her home without hesitation, took people in when they had nowhere else to go, and gave more chances than most would ever consider. She believed deeply in seeing the good in others, even when it cost her, and that compassion defined every relationship she held.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Mattingly (2010); her beloved son, John McGreevy (2022), whose loss forever changed her heart; and her cherished aunt Debbie, who passed earlier this year. While the pain of their absence weighed heavily on her, we find comfort in imagining their reunion and the peace she now holds.
Anisa is survived by her incredible husband of 43 years, Tommy McGreevy, her devoted mother, Carol Mattingly; her only brother & very best friend, William “Billy” Mattingly; and her two beloved children, Nicole and Shawn McGreevy, who were the center of her world. Her love expanded even further in her role as grandmother to four grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure. Two of those grandchildren, Elizabeth and Thomas Graham, were not only her pride and joy but also her daily purpose, as she lovingly raised them and gave them stability, guidance, and unconditional care.
She also leaves behind her loving nieces Brittany (James), Jemsand (Danny), Anisa, and her nephews Billy JR and Josh (Amanda) each of whom held a special place in her heart. She also leaves behind great neices and nephews: Jordan, Josiah, Jesslyn, Ben, Abigail and Jayce. To her family, Anisa was more than a relative.. she was a second mother, a confidant, a protector, and the person everyone could depend on when life felt too heavy.
Anisa had a personality that could never be forgotten. She was famously nosy, always in everyone’s business but only because she genuinely cared and wanted to make sure everyone was okay & that she wasn’t being left out. Her questions came from love, her concern came from loyalty, and her presence brought both comfort and laughter. She loved playing bingo, finding joy in the simple thrill of the game and the community it brought her. Those bingo halls were filled with her laughter, her stories, and her unmistakable spirit.
Above all else, Anisa loved deeply. She loved hard, forgave easily, and gave endlessly. Her life was not always easy, but her heart remained open through it all. She taught those around her what grace looks like in real life… messy, imperfect, and beautiful. Her legacy will live on in the children she raised, the grandchildren she cherished, the nieces and nephews that were more like her children, and the countless lives she touched through kindness alone.
Though we grieve her loss, we are forever grateful for the time we had, the lessons she taught us, and the love she gave so freely. Her memory will be carried forward in every act of compassion, every open door, and every second chance given in her honor.
Anisa McGreevy was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed.
