Shelba Jean Edge Obituary

Shelba Jean Avery Edge, age 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 16, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents Curtis Avery and Teressa Smith Avery Page, stepfather Clarence Page, her husband John Edward Edge Sr., her sons John Edward Edge Jr., Raymond Andrew Edge, and William Eric Edge, her siblings Geraldine Avery Gore, Morris Avery, and Victory Avery, and her sister-in-law Jo Avery. She is survived by her daughters Robin Jean Edge Tiner (Brian) and Dana Jeanette Edge, her brothers, Herbert Avery and Jimmy Avery (Judy), her half-siblings Clyde Avery, Lisa Avery Byrum (Bob), and Linda Avery Roberts (Bill), her grandchildren Andrew Edge (Sara), Elizabeth Pittman (Danny), D.J. Stewart (Brooke), Mason Tiner, Harrison Tiner, and Keegan Stewart, and her great-grandchildren Liam Edge, Oaklyn Stewart, and Taytum Stewart.

Jean was born in southeast Georgia and moved to Fernandina Beach, Florida as a child, where she resided for the remaining 84 years of her life. She was a graduate of Fernandina Beach High School and met her husband of 52 years, Johnny, through her best friend Jeanette Jones. In the early 1940s, Jean’s parents helped build and found North 14th Street Baptist Church where Jean was baptized and served faithfully for 80 years. She built a forty-year career as an agent with John T. Ferreira Insurance Company while also being a devoted wife to Johnny and a loving mother to her five children, a wonderful Nanny to her grandchildren, a very special aunt to many nieces and nephews, and a second mom to many neighborhood children. You could always find her on the ballpark bleachers and the dance studios cheering for her children, just as she did for her beloved Braves. She was always willing to help others and never uttered a complaint. Jean was someone everyone could count on and was busy leading people to Jesus until her last breath.

Jean’s life will be celebrated at North 14th Street Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 21, with visitation at 10:00 AM and service at 11:00 AM. Graveside service following at Bosque Bello Cemetery. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Shelba's name or to North 14th St Baptist Church.
