Marcus Prom Obituary

Marcus Prom, 74, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026.

Marcus spent most of his life in and around Jacksonville, Florida, where he graduated from Englewood High School and was active in the Baptist church.

He was an enthusiastic and successful entrepreneur from a young age – from hosting movie nights and making Salvation surfboards in his youth, to putting on concerts and being a top ad salesman for the Hatter newspaper while at Stetson University in the early 1970s, and creating the Gatorman triathalon series in northeast and central Florida in the 1980s and 90s. Following graduation from Stetson in 1973, Mr. Prom was a successful real estate broker and state certified general contractor. He designed and built many homes and commercial buildings in northeast Florida, Miami, and southwest Colorado over the years. Later, in 2010 he became a Florida Supreme Court certified circuit court and family mediator, specializing in construction and real estate matters, and more recently, founded and owned Zapotk farm in southwest Colorado.

Marcus had an adventuresome, fun-seeking spirit. He enjoyed numerous sailing races and trips with his brother Stephen and friends, throughout Jacksonville, Miami, and the Bahamas, even living on his sailboat for a few years. In addition to sailing, he enjoyed surfing, both locally in Jacksonville, as well as on surf trips to Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and Peru. In addition to Florida, he resided in southwest Colorado for many years, where he loved being in nature, snowboarding, biking, and other outdoor adventures. His love for travel took him many other places including across the U.S., as well as Guatemala, Mexico, France, Italy, and Germany. He was a movie buff, music fan, talented musician who played the violin, guitar, and the banjo, and a devoted fan of Gator football and basketball and Hatters basketball.

He was a dedicated lifelong blood donor, giving more than 30 gallons of lifesaving blood over the years.

Marcus was a loving son, brother, father, and grandfather, and a caring, cherished friend to many. He is predeceased by his parents George and Bonnie and brother Stephen. He is survived by his daughter Staley, son in law Ronnie, and grandson Sage.

His joyous free spirit, sense of humor, and kind nature will be missed by his loving family and friends.
