To Gail's family & friends,I share your sense of shock and loss.. She was a loyal friend. I may have been the last person to talk to her. I called her Sat., Oct. 26th and she sounded like she had a very bad cold. Gail told me she was very short of breath, especially when she tried to walk. I told her to call 911 and get to the E.R. She said she would see her nurse Monday. The next evening, I called her at 7:25 p.m. She sounded so much worse than she did on Sat. Before I could say anything, Gail told me, "I can't talk," and hung up. At first, I was miffed, but then I thought about it. When one has pneumonia or bronchitis, talking can trigger bad coughing spasmas. Plus, Gail knew what I was going to say, and I knew she didn't want to hear it. It wasn't the first time Gail had hung up on me, and I smiled, thinking it wouldn't be the last time. Sadly, it was the last time. Sometime during the night, Gail's time ran out. Even knowing how sick she was, I.was still totally unprepared for the news. I hope you find comfort, as I do, in having shared memories with Gail. May God, in His infinite wisdom, have mercy on her soul and give all of us solace.
