Obituary of karen Elizabeth Spencer

Karen Elizabeth Spencer, 61, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away at home on Monday, November 4, 2019 following an illness.

Karen was born on February 25, 1958 in Jacksonville, Florida to Betty Jean Johnson and Eddie Weeks. She had two older brothers, Dean and Mark Weeks and a younger sister, Melody Smith.

Karen attended high school in Seminole County Florida, and in1976, Karen gave birth to Robert Shawn Stricklin in Sanford Florida. Karen later married Daryl Spencer Sr., and they combined their families where Karen would become mom to Daryl Spencer Jr. and Bryn (Spencer) Richter. Karen and her family lived in Florida, Michigan, Tennessee and Cuba. She loved the mountains of Tennessee, thought Michigan was cold, and spoke of how beautiful Cuba was. But Florida was home.

Karen was so many things to so many people. She was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, an aunt and a friend. She was the matriarch of the family, a  self-proclaimed hippie-chick, and a wanna be Disney Princess. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she would do everything in her power to make it magical. Purple was her favorite color, she loved teddy bears and collected beautiful wooden music boxes. She enjoyed reading true crime and sitting up all night singing Judd songs with her daughter or singing gospel music while her granddaughter danced around the room.  But at the heart of who she truly was, was her love for her family. Her children were her heart and soul and she loved her grandbabies more than life itself. It is impossible to convey the depth and breadth of the love she had for her family – her loss will be felt in so many ways.

Karen is survived by her husband, Daryl Spencer, Sr., children, Daryl Spencer Jr. (LeAnne Evans), Bryn Richter (Danny McClinton), her grandchildren Daryl Spencer, III, Karen Hackett (Gabriel Hackett), Rebecca Spencer, Jessica Spencer, Justin Spencer, Winter Spencer and soon to be grandchildren, Dustin and Evan Deal. Her stepfather, Timothy Johnson, siblings, Dean Weeks and Melody Smith (Pam Smith). Her sister-in-law Theresa Weeks, sister-in-law (and best friend) Dawn Weeks (Mark Weeks). Her niece Kelly Knowles (DeAngelo Knowles), her nephew Mark Weeks Jr. and her great nephews Christian and Austin.

Karen is predeceased by her son Robert Shawn Stricklin (June 2019), her mother and best friend, Betty Jean Johnson (Timothy Johnson) (July 2011) and her brother Mark Weeks (Dawn Weeks)  (July 2005).

Services to celebrate Karen’s life will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 11:00 am at Eternity Funeral Home with the service being officiated by Pastor Scott.

The family invites you to join them for a meal in honor of Karen. Restaurant to be announced at the conclusion of the service.
