John was an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran and purple heart recipient having been wounded in the line of duty.
He lived in Pennsylvania and put up with snow, cold and ice.
Lived in California and endured drought and a few earthquakes.
Most recently in Florida, he went through several tropical storms and hurricanes. When one hurricane’s storm surge caused significant damage to his friend’s home, John set up a fund to help with recovery.
Jeeps (as he was known colloquially to some) was intelligent, witty, logical, helpful, unselfish, a sound advisor and a good listener.
An emotional comment about unselfish.
When diagnosed years ago the medical team suggested a lung(s) transplant.
Jeeps turned the idea down flat.
He said let someone younger, more viable with a full life ahead receive such.
He chose to endure what was to come so as to help someone else.
You can not be a bigger or a more brave and unselfish person than that.
He made me laugh during good and bad with his wit and oh SO terrible puns.
He was a master at limericks too. (envy envy I could never do it)
Just now there are tears, lots of them and raw roller coaster emotions for we who remain. Yet we take some comfort knowing that now jeeps is no longer hurting, is laughing again and meeting back up with those who went before him.
Jeeps until we meet again some day, “moon river” to you, my huckleberry friend.
Hugs and back pats, “Dolphin” Dave
