Obituary of Jerry Harmon Fields
Jerry Harmon Fields of Fernandina Beach, Florida peacefully departed this life at the Community Hospice Jane and Bill Warner Center for Caring on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the age of 70 years and 4 months. Jerry was born in Savannah, Georgia on July 20, 1949 and was the son of the late Sidney Augustus Fields and Mary Lutitia Roach Fields of Pooler, Georgia. Jerry was raised in Pooler and attended the Chatham County public schools and was a graduate of Groves High School in 1967. After high school he attended St. Johns River Junior College on a baseball scholarship and later graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. Jerry served in the United States Army and was deployed to Turkey during the Vietnam Era. He was awarded the National Defense Medal. Jerry was employed with the Fernandina Beach Police Department and served on the force for over 20 years retiring in 2003. In April of 1969 Jerry was united in holy matrimony to Cheri Marie Woods. This union was blessed with three children. Beyond Jerry’s career service, he was involved in various community organizations, among them was his dedication to the Fernandina Beach High School baseball team and Nassau County Volunteer Fire Department. Jerry’s favorite past time was hunting, fishing, boating, scuba diving, and golf. He was a loving husband and father and was devoted to spending time with his grandchildren. A “Service of Remembrance” will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at The Journey Church located at 95707 Amelia Concourse, Yulee, Florida with Pastor Darryl Bellar officiating followed by the Interment Ceremony at 2:00 p.m. at the Jacksonville National Cemetery located at 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida. Jerry was predeceased by his parents Sidney Augustus and Mary Lutitia Fields, his son “Brett” Sidney Fields, and his brother James “Jimmy” Sidney Fields. Survived by his loving wife of 50 years and 8 months Cheri Marie Woods Fields. Jerry is lovingly remembered by his daughter Tracie Lynn Inman (husband Kevin) of Atlantic Beach, Florida, his son Christopher “Dempsey” Fields (wife Sarah) of Yulee, Florida and 6 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
