Obituary of Luther Oliver Anderson
Please share a memory of Luther to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Luther “Luke” Oliver Anderson, 73, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep April 18, 2020 at his home after a prolonged battle with lung disease.
Born August 5, 1946, Luke spent his childhood in Jacksonville, attending First United Methodist Church with his family and was a proud Class of ’64 Landon High School graduate. Luke briefly attended Andrew College in Georgia before joining the United States Air Force in 1966. He was stationed in Germany and served a 4-year tour of duty. After he left the Air Force, he earned his Bachelor’s degree at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Luke liked variety in his life and held various service industry and customer relations positions throughout his career. He enjoyed socializing with friends and had a good sense of humor.
Luke’s greatest pleasure came from riding his Victory Vision motorcycle and the people he spent time riding with and those he met along the way. He had many friends in the motorcycle community through the Hurricane Alley Victory Riders of Central Florida Chapter 13 and Southern Cruisers Riding Club Chapter 115 groups. Luke was very proud of his beautifully crafted machine and enjoyed every minute he could ride.
Luke is survived by his daughter Tiffany (Matthew) Chidester, his grandchildren Joseph, Holly, and Ryan Chidester, brother Haskell (Maureen) Anderson, sister Mary Jo (David) Vickers, and beloved companion for the last twenty years Laura Petris. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Bertha Mary Anderson.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a date to be determined later after government regulations concerning social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic have been lifted.
Ride On in Heaven, Luke. May you now breathe easy and enjoy the views.
