Obituary of Twyla Lairsey

Please share a memory of Twyla to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our loving and caring, Mother, Daughter, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and friend Twyler "Twyla" Mae Hughes Lairsey departed this earth to peacefully enter into her final resting place on Thursday October 22. Ever since she was diagnosed with Leukemia, she told me don't cry baby, that she was very tired and ready to go, she was the strongest person I have ever known, so this broke my heart but it also made it extremely real. She also said I will get to see your brother soon. This was heartbreaking but it also eased the pain as much as it could. I imagine and hope that she was greeted by my brother "Thomas "Skibo" Herschel Hughes, Jr '' who had passed when he was only 18 and all of the other loved ones and friends she had lost and loved as well. As sad as it makes me and my family, the thought of this exciting meeting makes our loss and grief almost bearable. She was next to oldest of 6 kids(CV and Eva(dcsd) Mathews, LaFonda and Don Wester, Melanie and David Castle, Tamara DeLaCruz & Ray and Kathy Mathews) by Verona and Cecil Mathews, Cecil preceded her in death. She has always been the glue that kept the family coming together for reunions or a simple fish fry or her famous fried chicken and mashed potatoes. That was her passion and nothing made her happier than to feed those she loved. Her life took a very real change when her only other child Melissa Gail Hughes Strickland and her Husband Robert Glenn Strickland, Jr gave her the best gift she has ever been given ("these are her own words") She was gifted with her one and only grandchild on 10/7/90. Everyone that knew her, knew who "was her heart". From the time she was born, our precious "Sara Danielle Strickland",began having a Granny Day every Tuesday and they both waited each week for Tuesday to roll around. She also was close to all of three decades of her nieces and nephews, they loved seeing their Aunt Twyla or as some called her Cha Cha. She was so giving and helped anyone she could any time it was possible. She did not have much but what she did have was always available to someone in need. This place will miss their own earthly angel but to soothe our selfish grieving hearts we have to let her go and find the happiness she so deserved. As my husband would always have said about our daughter that when she walked in a room it lit up. We know where that quality came from, My mom had that same quality and now gets to shine constantly with no more pain of any kind. We do love and miss you Mama and always will. Per her request there will be no memorial service, if you would like to send condolences please send to Melissa Strickland 2637 Old Statenville Rd, Upstairs Garage Apt, Valdosta, GA 31636
