I’m 2022 I purchased a box of vintage letters on EBay and made it my sort of pet project to sit and read through them. Over the last 2 years I’ve revisited these letters dozens of times. They’ve made me smile, cry, and even laugh out loud. I’ve found that at times the content of the letters mirrored moments in my own life, and in some ways, made me feel understood and less alone. Those letters I be hold so fondly are between a sweet 20 year old Elaine Whitehead and her lover Paul Ellis from 1966-1967. While I never got to meet Elaine or Paul, I find some peace in knowing that they were eventually married (as Elaine often asked Paul if he intended to do) and were still together until Paul’s death in 2005. I hope any family they’ve got out there know how dearly their love has touched my heart and their memory will stay with me forever.
