Please share a memory of Martha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ms. Martha Jou, 69, passed away on Monday December 21, 2020. Marty, as we all called her, was born on February 28, 1951, in Manhattan, New York. She was the only daughter of Simon and Hilda Jou and had two brothers, Tommy (who passed away at 19 years of age) and James Jou who is married with children and lives in Miami. She was a lovely young lady raised in central Florida where she finished high school. Shortly after high school Marty got married and quickly divorced. She then moved to Colorado where she spent most of her adult life in the county, riding horses and exploring the rich mountain tops and country. Marty also enjoyed water activities like snorkeling and scuba diving where she was an underwater model. She explored many reefs in the Florida Keys and the Caribbean. She returned to live in Miami in 1995 where she worked as a Clerk of the County at Miami Dade for many years. While in Miami Marty shared many wonderful times with our small Family, as her brother James and Arlene (James wife) Jou, had two children Joseph and Tiffany. She enjoyed many days with our extended family gatherings, events and parties. Her most joyous times were sharing the pool, snorkeling and going to the beach with her niece and nephew. Her dream to own a ranch took her to north Florida, Gainesville area where she lived for 15 years enjoying the springs, tending to her garden and hiking in her woodland backyard. Marty loved animals and cared for her few cats, Mama Kitty & Patches and also had dogs Sadder & Baby, they were the light in her days. Sadly, Marty became ill and as her condition worsened she was taken to Jacksonville for treatment. She shortly ended up in Community Hospice Care where she passed away peaceful with James and Arlene Jou by her side. She will be fondly remembered as a loving & caring sister and aunt who will be deeply missed by those who loved her. She is survived only by her brother James Jou and his family as her parents are deceased, Simon Jou, 92 on May 19, 2017 & Hilda Dunlap, 70 on July 22, 2001. A small memorial will be held with the family present at her home on Saturday, February 6, 2021. Plans to celebrate her life will be held on February 28, 2021 (Marty’s Birthday) by Rum Island Springs Country Park, 1447 SW Rum Island Terrace, Fort White, FL 32038, if you would like to attend or get information, kindly contact the family at Jamesjou@bellsouth.net.
