Obituary of Lenore Freitag
Please share a memory of Lenore to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lenore (Lynn) Hofmann Freitag passed away at the age of 96 on June 27th in the presence of her beloved children, after a brief illness. Lynn was known to many residents of Amelia Island Plantation and Fernandina Beach where she lived for over 40 years. Lynn was very active in her community and wore many hats over the years, helping plan for the construction of the Amelia Island Plantation Chapel and Walker’s Landing. In addition she served Habitat for Humanity as a selection coordinator. Lynn was a robust tennis player and golfer. She played tennis well into her 80’s and golf into her 90’s.
Lynn was a proud graduate of Penn State University, and married William Freitag shortly after the end of WWII. She and her husband lived in Briarcliff Manor, New York for almost twenty five years before relocating to Amelia Island in 1981. Residents of her street often referred to Lynn as the “Mayor”, because she would always stop to talk to her neighbors and she seemed to know all the residents and activities of her little “neighborhood”.
Friends would often find Lynn using her boundless energy tending her garden, walking her dog and volunteering for many causes in the greater community. She always had a good word for friends, workers and staff and was warm and inviting to all.
Lynn leaves behind three children; William, Thomas and Linda and four grandchildren; Katherine, Christiana, Thomas, and William.
A memorial service is planned Lynn at the Amelia Island Plantation Chapel. The family invites all to join us in celebration of Lynn’s life. In lieu of flowers the family asks you to direct donations to the ASPCA.
