Obituary of Rebecca Baker

Please share a memory of Rebecca to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rebecca Leigh Baker, 68, of St. Augustine, FL left this world on September 30, 2021, while residing at the Regents Park Assisted Living facility in St. Augustine, FL, following a brief illness. Rebecca (Becky) was born June 15, 1953, in Annapolis, MD, to Joseph M. Baker, Jr. and Viola Bernice Baker of Beverly Beach, MD. Shortly after Becky’s birth the family moved to Edgewater Beach, MD and in 1960, settled into the neighborhood of Lindamoor on the Severn in Annapolis. Becky enrolled in the Annapolis school system, departing Annapolis High School in 1969. She completed her schooling at the Walsingham Academy, Williamsburg, VA, graduating in 1971. From there she continued her education at Randolph-Macon College, Ashland, VA. Following up with studies at the Interior Design/Art History at the Maryland Institute college of Art. In 1988 Becky suffered a stroke shortly after giving birth to her son, Chase. This left her partially paralyzed on her right side, but it never slowed her or her determination down. Becky found her calling while working at the Republican National Committee, in Washington, DC, as a GOP fund raiser. Consistently out raising her colleagues in financial support of the GOP. If she wasn’t fund raising, she was helping others with interior design, a true passion of hers. In 2014 she moved to St. Augustine to be with her son Chase. Chase said about his mom, “She battled back from a stroke that took half her body, but she was still more than a full mother to me. She did everything in her power every day to make sure I had the best life possible. She was kind, beautiful, loving and most of all she was the best mom that someone could ask for… I know right now she’s finally able to run on the beach again and swim for miles in the ocean like she did her whole life before her stroke. I also know she’s watching down on me, giving her love and guidance as she has my entire life. I love you mom.” The family would like to thank Vicki Cusick and the local congregation of the Church of Latter-Day Saints for their, friendship, love and devotion to Becky over the years. Becky is survived by her son, Chase Baker Burnett, Edgewater, MD, her brother Joseph M. Baker, III and his wife Elaine, Edgewater, MD, her sister Cynthia L. Baker, Ft. Washington, MD, her brother Robert L. Baker and his wife Grace and nephews Robbie and Josh, Leonardtown, MD, her sister Susan B. Kalergis and nieces Grayson and Harper, Charlottesville, VA. Becky was preceded in death by her father Joseph and mother Bernice Baker. Arrangements are private. Please make any Contributions in Becky’s name to the American Cancer Society
