Peter "J." Wurtz, 69, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 20, 2021. He was born May 15, 1952 in Redfield, South Dakota.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years Mary Wurtz, who he married on September 23, 1977. Their two daughters Tammie (Michael) Litgen; Julia Wurtz (Steven Ryan). His four grandchildren Emily Litgen, Jadalyn Ryan, Noah Litgen, and Jazzalyn Ryan.
Pete served 22 years in the Navy, where he served as a boiler technician and then a recruiter. His last duty station was Naval Station Mayport Florida, he retired in 1990 with an honorable discharge. He was an avid runner. Also an active leader and mentor in Celebrate Recovery at several churches and a devout member of the Beaches Vineyard. He loved the beach where he felt most at peace, his happy place.

Pete will be interred at Jacksonville National Cemetery with full military honors on January 28, 2022 at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations for the grandchildren's college funds.
