Marie B Sanborn
Marie B Sanborn passed away peacefully on February 1st. She was 3 weeks shy of her 99th birthday.
Marie was born and raised in Wilmington, NC and worked for the Atlantic Coastline Railroad (ACL) which was based there. In 1960 the ACL moved its headquarters to Jacksonville, Florida. Marie enthusiastically relocated to Florida and continued her job with the company. She retired from the railroad, which is now known as CSX, with 32 years of loyal service. She was always proud to be a railroader.
Marie loved the beach and all things connected to the ocean. She also enjoyed attending concerts of the Jacksonville Symphony. After her retirement she was very active in the community. She served as an Elder of the South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church. She was also active as a volunteer at Wolfson Children's Hospital. She dedicated thousands of hours of service to the hospital from 1989 to 1999 as a member of the auxiliary. She was President of the Women’s Auxiliary of the children’s hospital in 1994 and was named as Honorary Life Member of the Baptist Medical Center Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her sister Eleanor (Elkie) B. Fick of Wilmington. She leaves behind a daughter, Cindy Sanborn, who resides in Atlanta, and two nephews and their families who live in Montana.
A private ceremony will be held at the beach with close friends including her remarkable caregivers…who provided her great care and comfort, and who meant so much to her.
Friends of Marie and family who wish to remember her are encouraged to make a contribution in her honor to Wolfson Children’s Hospital. Donations can either be made online at www.wolfsonchildrens.com/donate (there is an option on the page to designate the name of an honoree), or via check made out to Wolfson Children’s Hospital (841 Prudential Drive, Suite 1300, Jacksonville Florida 32207) noting Marie’s name in the memo line.
