Obituary of LaVerne H Patrick

Please share a memory of LaVerne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
LaVerne Patrick was born October 12, 1930 in Akron, Ohio to William and Nellie Hennon. She moved to her heavenly home March 1, 2022, at the age of 91. She answered to many names, Mom, Mother, Mama, Grandma, Nanny Patrick… and “Honey” which her husband of 43 years, Thomas Patrick Sr. often called her. She spent her early years growing up in Goodyear Heights, and East Akron, as her father worked for Goodyear Tires. There she often got in trouble for playing in buildings that were stacked with surplus tires. The warning signs posted on those buildings were interpreted by her as an invitation to come and explore. She never lost that adventurous spirit. She moved to Jacksonville Beach during her senior year of high school and graduated from Duncan Fletcher High, class of 1948. She worked a variety of jobs, among them were Kress’ Dept. Store (Downtown Jax), Bennet’s Drugs (Jax Beach), and by the side of her husband in the restaurant and transportation businesses that they owned. She married “Pat” (Thomas Patrick Sr.) in 1949. LaVerne trusted Christ as her Savior at an early age while living in Akron. In the mid 1950’s she was invited to the Beaver St. Baptist Church which was near to their house on the Westside of Jacksonville. She was baptized there, sang in the choir, and raised her family there. When they moved to Arlington in 1956, they continued to go to the Beaver St. Church. Nanny Patrick taught Sunday School for many years, helped to plant the SouthEast Baptist Church in Jacksonville, and taught herself to play the piano, serving as the church pianist for more than 20 years. In 1974 Nanny went to work at Blue Cross/Blue Shield, retiring from there in 1996 after 22 years of service. She would often say that God blessed her with that job, because she retried with insurance benefits that gave her the best in medical care throughout her retired years. When her Lord called her home, she was a faithful member of East Pointe Church, attending mostly through live stream in her latter months. In addition to loving her Lord, and her family, she loved flowers, the yellow rose being her favorite. LaVerne stood only five feet tall, but when it came to her faith, and to her prayer life, she was a giant of a lady. LaVerne is survived by: Her son - David Patrick (His wife Gayle), Daughter - Lori Patrick (Her friend Jack), Daughter - Dollie Lim (Her husband Roger), Daughter in law - Linda Patrick, Sister- Ruth Stedman. 8 Grandchildren: Roger Lim Jr, Jessica Pearson, Amy Smeltzer, Tommy Patrick, Amanda Zrile, Thomas Dailey, Jonathan Dailey, and DJ Patrick 10 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews She is preceded in death by: Her Parents: William and Nellie Hennon, Her Husband: Thomas A Patrick SR, Her Son: Thomas A Patrick, JR, 3 Sisters; Pearl, Diane and Evelyn. I Want to Stroll Over Heaven with You When I survey all the good things that come to me from above if I could count all the blessings from the storehouse of love I'd simply ask for the favor of Him beyond mortal men and I'm sure He would grant it again and again I want to stroll over Heaven with you some glad day when all the troubles and heartaches are truly vanished away then we'll enjoy all the beauty where all things are new I want to stroll over Heaven with you We'll renew old acquaintance and friends we once knew then we'll meet all our loved ones and we'll see Jesus too that will be a glad reunion, there will be much to view when I stroll over Heaven with you I want to stroll over Heaven with you some glad day when all the troubles and heartaches are truly vanished away then we'll enjoy all the beauty where all things are new I want to stroll over Heaven with you “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.” Psalm 116:15
