Please share a memory of Angela to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs. Angela Teresa Brown, daughter of the late Johnnie Baker-Sanders and Charles Baker, was born July 8, 1956, in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, the second of four children. She departed this life on May 19, 2022. She attended Davidson County public schools, Tennessee State University and obtained a master’s degree at Webster University. Angela confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. She later joined First Baptist Church Capital Hill where she remained a member. In 1971, Angela became a loving and devoted mother to Gwendolyn Elaine Baker. Angela chose a career in Dental Hygiene. She was an adjunct faculty member in the joint Meharry Medical College and Tennessee State University’s Dental Hygiene program. While teaching part-time and working as a dental hygienist, Angela decided to join the US Navy. While serving in the Navy, Angela met the love of her life, Billy Brown and they married in Yokosuka, Japan in 1995. After leaving the Navy, Angela continued working as a civilian on the naval base until her retirement. Angela was very devoted to family and loved having dinners with family and friends. She enjoyed dancing, swimming, including teaching swimming, and traveling, throughout the country to visit family and friends. Angela was a true believer in “to much is given much is owed” as she readily reached out to encourage and help many people. After retiring from working on the military base she began substitute teaching in the Florida public school system because she enjoyed working with students. Angela Brown was preceded in death by her parents Johnnie Baker-Sanders and Charles Baker, and brothers Larry and Vincent Baker. She leaves to cherish her memory a very devoted husband, Billy Brown; a loving and faithful daughter, Gwendolyn Elaine Baker, San Diego, CA; brother, Michael (Cheryl Presley) Baker, Hudson, MA; uncles, Elder Walter (Karion) Glenn, Sr., Murfreesboro, TN, Howard Leo Glenn and Howell Leon Glenn; aunts, Katherine Glenn, Nolensville, TN, Gladys (Robert, Sr.) Glenn Mason, Antioch, TN, Linda (James) Glenn Rose, Smyrna, TN, Brenda Glenn, Lebanon, TN; Sisters-in-laws Hattie (Tom) Laughlin, Hanover, MD, Martha (Charles) Parker Mary (Sonny) Parker Gwendolyn Pritle, Janet (James) Clark Amy Brown, all of Jackson, TN, Iona (Ronnie) Freeman, Decatur, IL, Emma Fiazel, Bel-Air, MD; Brother-in-laws, Charles Brown, Richard Brown, Gary Brown, and Joe Daniel Brown, of Jackson, TN; aunt-in-laws, Daisy and Gladys Glenn, Jackson, TN; nieces, Mercede Baker, Erica Jones, Tamika Baker, Starlisha Baker, and Honey Barnes; nephews, Darrell Covington, Leon (Brittany) Covington, Michael Baker Jr, Tony Jones, Joshua Baker; cousins, Delores Smith and family, Palo Alto, CA; as well as many relatives and friends who will truly miss her.
