Jeff and I started working at FLETC at the IT Service Desk within a month of each other back in 2006. We were a tight knit group and even though it was a stressful job we had lots of good times together over the years. From laughing about the logistics of shared bathrooms…. to the dreaded job of unpacking new computers in an unheated garage…. to having contests to see who closed the most tickets…. or who could answer the phones the fastest and assist the most customers at the same time…or giving him a hard time about his Fred Flintstone car – so many memories of all the fun we had and all the crazy cakes we would purchase for random occasions. By the way, Jeff was always the winner at answering the phone, finding out what the issues was then putting the person on hold and fixing their problem while moving forward with taking more phone calls – sometimes he had 3 people on hold and was fixing all their problems at the same time and still listening in on all the office banter!! Since he was retired from the Navy, I nicknamed him our “Super-Chief” and brought him back a magnet from the US Naval Academy when I visited for a graduation.
We both went on to other jobs at FLETC over the years, and didn’t get to talk as much, but I always considered him a good friend. I know the last couple of years have been tough, and I cannot believe he is gone. His birthday is on New Year’s Eve and I will always think of him and the good times we shared.
