Obituary of Michael William Baggs

Michael William Baggs, 62, passed away quietly Thursday, July 14, 2022 at his residence. Michael was born September 24, 1959 in Cincinnati, Ohio, son of William Thomas and Joan Betty Capp Baggs. Michael grew up and attended schools in Cincinnati, graduating high school from the Cincinnati Zoo Academy. Michael also lived near Lake Cumberland, Kentucky. A “jack of many trades” Michael assisted with many projects. Michael loved fishing and for a while, captained a commercial fishing vessel out of New Orleans. Since 2008, Michael lived in Jacksonville, Florida enjoying great fishing opportunities. Michael was the original fish whisperer. Michael was a lover of nature. He had the ability to spot and identify birds that we mere mortals could not see. Michael is preceded in death by his father, William T. Baggs (December 3, 1926 – August 19, 2012 ) and long time friend and partner, Deborah “Debbie” Mobley, (March 10, 1953 - February 22, 2022). Michael is survived by his mother, Joan Betty Baggs of Cincinnati, OH., brothers, Thomas (Marti) Baggs of Jacksonville, FL., and Gerry (Barb) Baggs of Newport, KY., and sisters Margaret Baggs (Kirk) Fast of Ozawkie, KS., Patricia Baggs Rettig of Cincinnati, OH., Mary Baggs (Garnell “Clyde” Higgins) of Cincinnati, OH., nieces Meredith Rettig (Ashby) Smith of Flagstaff, AZ., Elizabeth Rettig (fiancée Chris) of Cincinnati, OH., and nephews Christian Fast of Lawrence, KS., and Benjamin Fast of Omaha, NE. Arrangements are entrusted to ETERNITY FUNERAL HOME, 4865 Oakdale Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida, 32207. A memorial service is being arranged through SHEPHERD OF THE WOODS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 7860 Southside Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32256.
