Obituary of Raouf Mahmoud Shokery
Please share a memory of Raouf to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Raouf Mahmoud Shokery (June 10, 1955-July 31, 2022). He has returned to Allah.
He is survived by his wife, Jill Shokery, two children, Andrea Hayes (Robert Hayes) and Adam Shokery, and two grandchildren, Ramsey and Daphne Hayes. In Cairo, Egypt, he is survived by his brother, Onsy (Nahed), sister, Nahla (Hassan), and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Cairo, Egypt, Raouf was always a very determined and focused person. A life long athlete, he played soccer and handball in Egypt and was a member of the 1976 Egyptian Olympic Handball team. He moved to the United States in 1984 and married Leann Arnold in 1985 (div 2002). He raised his family in Gahanna, Ohio and began his long career in Logistics. He married Jill Gibson in 2005 and they made their home together in Greensboro and Lewisville, North Carolina for 16 years. He and Jill enjoyed traveling and Raouf was also blessed to enjoy Jill’s wonderful cooking. They moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 2021, to fulfill their wish to live near the beach.
Raouf was a mustache rocking, speedo wearing, bulldog loving, tennis playing, sport car driving, family man. He was a wonderful father, husband, brother, grandfather, and teammate. Raouf impacted so many people. He always found such great purpose and value in helping those he worked with grow and learn, being their coach and advocate. Anyone that knew him would say he lit up any room he was in with his positivity, his humor, and his adorably unique English grammar. He was a man that loved his family, both near and abroad, more than anything in this world. He was so loved and will be very truly missed by all. Pray for Allah to forgive his sins, remember his good deeds, and to enter him into Paradise.
A funeral service will be held in Cairo, Egypt at a date to be determined. Memorial donations may be made to the lungevity foundation, www.lungevity.org
