Damon Charles Loop of Fernandina Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 3, 2022.
Damon was born January 12, 1945 to Marie Elizabeth McEvoy Loop and Donald Monroe Loop. He graduated from The Bolles School in 1963 and Florida State University in 1967. He served in the United States Air Force as a T-38 pilot and instructor. He flew for Eastern Airlines and owned several businesses over the years including Damon Furniture in Valdosta, Georgia and most recently The Tool Shack on Edgewood Avenue in Jacksonville. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, the Florida Yacht Club, the Jacksonville Commodore’s League, the Rotary Club, the Quiet Birdmen and more recently Oyster Bay Yacht Club in Fernandina Beach.
Damon loved boating, biking, and flying. He taught himself to play the guitar and the banjo, and he mastered the art of woodworking. He was a voracious reader. Damon loved most of all to spend time with his family and friends on or around the water.
Damon will be remembered as a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and a loyal friend to many.
Damon is survived by his wife of 54 years Mary Anna Loop (nee Morrison), his adult children Damon Monroe Loop and Jennifer Loop Bolcar, his sister Nancy Elizabeth Boyette, his grandchildren Anna Bolcar, Emily Bolcar, and Dean Loop, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Damon is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Donald McEvoy Loop.
The family will hold a private memorial in coming weeks. Those wishing to pay tribute please consider making a donation to the Alzheimers Association in lieu of flowers.
