Obituary of Robert Clayton Thomas
Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert Clayton Thomas, a lifetime resident of Jacksonville, Fl., passed away of natural causes on February 7, 2023, at the age of 68. Best known to his family and friends as Robbie or Rob, he served in the US Army in his youth, but his certified trades were welding and water management. His passion was gardening. He could cut a twig from any plant and make it grow. He was known in his neighborhood as the man with the green thumb and was always sharing his flowers and plants with his family and neighbors. He was also an animal lover. Growing up he had dogs, cats, ducks, squirrels and rabbits, and as an adult he would adopt stray cats and dogs and care for them the best he could.
Robbie was predeceased by his mother, Mavis Barton Voss (Doug), his father Robert D. Thomas (Sylvia), and two children Spring Marie Thomas and Robert D. Thomas Jr. Robbie is survived by his daughters, Crystal Lorene Ware (James) and Kari Thomas; his Grandchildren, Marc Dylan Thomas (Kitty), Rayne and Snow Day and Desmond Ware; sisters Linda Matola, Sandra Rentfrow (Don), Mary Griffin, Paige Savitz (Chris), Delane Johns, Tammy Pate (Jud), Debbie Johnson (Billy) and Betty Voss (Sveta); and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Having grown up with so many sisters, it is no surprise as to his strong will and nature. The loss of his children was painful and contributed to his struggles with life, but he endured to the end. Outside his home was a sign that read “ God’s Got This!”
His life will be honored at Jacksonville National Cemetery on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 2:30pm
Flowers are gratefully declined, due to policies at Jacksonville National Cemetery. Those wishing may contribute in his memory to The American Lung Association or the Jacksonville Humane Society.
