Gary L. Nichols, 73, of Callahan, lost his fight and passed away November 11, 2023. He was a
Veteran and God chose to take him on Veterans Day, following a lengthy illness. He proudly
served his country in the US Army. He was born April 18, 1950 in Pontiac, Michigan. He worked
as a certified mechanic and could fix anything. He specialized in Mercury outboards. He was an
avid NASCAR fan with Dale Earnhardt being his favorite driver of all times! He was also a lifetime
member of the American Legion Post 0233 in Michigan. He and Kathy have been Callahan
residents since 1986.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathleen; three children Douglas Nichols of Florida,
James (Tonia) Nichols of Kentucky and Kimberly (Lee) Moore of Michigan; 12 grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; brothers Daryl (Rosie) Nichols and George (Judy) Nichols; and numerous
nieces, nephews and friends.
The funeral service will be held Friday, December 1 at 2 p.m. at Jacksonville National Cemetery with
full military honors.
