In the book of Life, Uncle Louis must be somewhere up there at the top... I know it true because of the light in him and around him, where ever he was. Uncle Louis had a presence about him that is only described as Godly. A kind of gentle security that filled everyone he encountered with a peace that surpassed understanding. He loved in the way the good book describes one should down here...he held himself sacred for one woman. And she for him. Out of that sweet first and only love, came the most wonderful and diverse children, created in true holy vision. He was a quiet man, and he never shouted to get his point across because real power doesn't have to. Jesus Christ is the picture of true, complete love. The Greek word for that love is agapē. As Paul wrote to the believers in the Corinthian Church for order and discipline; Uncle Louis and Aunt Debi wrote on a sturdy corner post for the foundation of my home and marriage: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud, it does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres...Uncle Louis did not only possess the qualities of agapē love, but he exercised them naturally and consistently...Those that we love are never lost...love never ends. Time is a construct of this earth. Outside of it, is where our angels are excited to greet us. I'm comforted knowing that not only is he in the presence of Jesus, with music and colors incomprehensible to our human minds, but also that for a short while longer, while we are still here: God's face shines brightly on us, because Uncle Louis set a loving example for us all, witnessing and claiming the transforming power of Christ's love, in life on earth, and the even richer life that awaits outside of it.
