Q: What will you miss most about Kathleen?
A: I miss everything about Kathy, especially our daily routine of checking in on each other through text and phone calls. Her visits to Virginia were filled with great conversations and laughter. She loved seeing her friends. Her reaction to the 2024 election results would be epic. I think of her daily and miss her immensely

We met Kathy about 41 years ago when she became our neighbor at our townhouse community in Springfield, VA. She was a wonderful friend from the moment we met. Through the years, we shared many milestones and fun times. She is Godmother to my daughter, Christine, and also cared deeply for my other daughter, Katie. When she married Ziad, I was in her wedding. It was beautiful and just what she wanted. Kathy loved Halloween parties and dressing up. Kathy thrived on knowledge. She went to seminars, lectures, museums, enjoyed movies with subtitles, and read many books, anything to stimulate her mind. She supported the Smithsonian and volunteered there a few times over the summers. Kathy enjoyed sending cards to the people she cherished, so one never knew when they would get fun mail from her. Before she moved to Jax, almost every Sunday evening she would stop by after Church and join us for dinner. We had many lively conversations about politics and world news. Kathy had a passion for tennis, pickle ball, and hikes. She had many friends from these activities. I have her hiking stick and will carry her with me on my journeys. Kathy taught ESOL and this gave her an opportunity to meet and get to know many people and their cultures, which she enjoyed very much. Even though she lived far away, we would text almost every day and spoke multiple times a week. We always had a lot to talk about and share our daily adventures. Our family, including our extended family, called her “our other daughter”. Even though she was far away, it always seemed like her presence was a part of every important family event. I could write a book about our friendship and the ability to be so open and truthful with each other. She is so missed in my life but I will always cherish our friendship. So, my dear, rest in peace and know that you are loved by so many that you touched in your life among us.

To "Aunt" Kathy and her family and friends,
My parents knew Kathy going all the way back to the 1980s in Washington D.C. and I was told since we (my brother, sister, and I) were babies she has been in our lives watching over us, giving our parents a break every now and then, and just generally being a supportive friend. Better than just a friend though, she was family! That is why we affectionately called her Aunt Kathy. Over the years as my family spread out school/jobs, etc. , we would still come together enjoy hanging out with Kathy during our Jekyll Island retreats. She brought lots of laughter, studied opinions on world events, and a great appetite for fine cuisine and wine! I would always try to bring a wine bottle back for her direct from Italy. The photos I posted are her spring 2023 visit to Vicenza, Italy and has been remarked on by others, she had a DNA level bond with Italy - it was in her blood. She told my wife and I during this visit that she was quite happy to have returned and it could be her last trip. That line turned out to be sadly accurate. My family is devastated and trying to process her passing, but we are also reflecting that Kathy lived an adventurous life, full of many great memories. Equally impressive was Kathy's intelligence and education that made her nimble in a debate on current events. Kathy had a giving spirit and helped those with less advantages and just wanting to make a better life for their families, such as immigrants. She was a principled person of traditional values and follower of the Catholic church. I will conclude by saying the Warnocks will always remember her generous legacy and we will find a special way to honor her in Italy and at Jekyll Island. Kathy, che tu possa riposare in pace. Love, the Warnocks

She was one of the most selfless people I’ve ever met. She was the kind of person who would be there for you no matter what. The world lost an amazing person.

Kathy,
My beautiful Dear friend. How can this be? I was just sharing pictures of Italy with you just the other day and reminiscing on the fond memories of that one year you flew over to join us here. Kathy, you and I share so many beautiful memories! Memories of the night you and I were out for a drink and I met my husband. Memories of you attending my wedding and being present in the hospital room as I gave birth to my beautiful daughter. Memories of you driving five long hours just so that you could attend Lilyanna’s baptism. The hours on the phone and in person talking about coming back to Italy together someday and your love for Le Cinque Terre. Oh the memories! That’s all I have now. Memories. I will cherish our friendship and the memories of you in heart until the day we meet again.
Ti voglio un mondo di bene amica mia. Sei nel mio cuore, sempre. Riposa in pace, amica mia.
Con tanto affetto,
Linda Truppo

Kathy our life together for the last 71 years began with your cradling me as your new second baby brother. You often told me about your excitement and love for me then, that has always been there and was felt, even during our sometimes getting crossways with one another throughout life. All normal. I will continue to carry you in my heart, until we meet again. “To be absent from the body, is to present with the Lord”
