Obituary of Gary Lee Hunt

Gary Lee Hunt 78 of Hawthorne, Florida passed away August 1, 2024, in a nursing home in Orange Park, Florida. Born August 9, 1945, in Waterloo, Iowa, he was the son of the late Louie Woock and Virginia Perry Hunt. He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Titus Hunt; two daughters Sueanne and Emily, Stepfather Horace D. Hunt Jr. sister Judy Hunt Partridge, brother-in-law Tony Partridge, sister-in-law Sally Hunt and son-in-law William Robert. Gary was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He dedicated his life to serving our country in many forms. He served in the Army for 12 years before he had to retire on disability. He held the rank of E5. After retiring he served his community by becoming a volunteer firefighter for over 30 years. He loved doing amateur radio which came in handy because when weather disaster came about, his radio skills kept communications open for relief in the area. He had been married to Carolyn for 58 years; she was the light of his life. Most importantly to Gary was his FAMILY. Surviving him are two daughter’s Barbara Hunt White and husband Ricky of Hawthorne, Florida and Teresa Hunt Roberts of Mayo, Florida, 5 grandchildren Gregory, Deanna, Racheal, Sharry and Andrew, 8 great grandchildren and 3 sisters Cherry Hunt Payne and husband Albert Payne Jr., Andrea Hunt Berkley and husband Dean, Lori Woock Kluth and her husband Dale, two brothers Dennie Woock and wife Denice and brother Horace Hunt III. A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held at 11am, Sept 30, 2024, at the National Cemetery 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, Florida.
