Obituary of Dr. David Shepard O'Brien

Please share a memory of Dr. David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David Shepard O’Brien May 26, 1935 – August 29, 2024 David Shepard O’Brien was born on May 26, 1935, in New York City, NY to Frances Corbier and Warren O’Brien and died on August 29, 2024, with his beloved wife, Fran by his side. While David was still young, the family which included David and his two brothers moved to a farm in Bremo Bluff, Virginia which is near Charlottesville. Warren and the family raised sheep and bought/sold wool for yarn. The railroad track ran through the lowland of their property which meant their access to New York was very helpful. David and his brothers were home schooled by their mother on the farm and then attended small private schools in Charlottesville and Richmond. David studied Foreign Affairs at Dartmouth and then the University of Virginia and then continued his studies in medicine at UVA, graduating in 1963. After completing residencies in Norfolk, VA and Charlottsville, VA he began his career with the US Army Medical Corps in Korea and San Francisco before moving to Annapolis, MD as the staff radiologist for the Anne Arundel Medical Center. He then opened a private radiology practice in Annapolis where he continued his career and was beloved in the town by many. David met Fran Howell in Annapolis through friends, and they married in 1993. David and Fran moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl in 2003 and David officially retired in 2005 after selling his practice to Johns Hopkins Medical Center. Retirement for David and Fran didn’t mean slowing down as David was busy with the Ponte Vedra Beach Rotary Club, sat of the Board of Directors for the Friends of the Library and The American Cancer Society of Jacksonville Beach. He was the Advisory Board Chairman for the Players/Palm Valley Senior Center as well as on the Board of Directors for the St. John’s Council on Aging. David and Fran enjoyed traveling around the world; particularly enjoying England. Ireland, Switzerland, Nepal, Tibet, China and Africa and they accumulated amazing memories from those trips. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to K9’s for Warriors.
