Obituary of Alma Geneva Oller
Please share a memory of Alma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alma Geneva (Rock) Oller, age 96, went to be with the Lord on November 5, 2024. She
was affectionately known by many names including Alma, Mom, Mammaw, Memmaw,
Granny Alma and Pearl, and she answered to them all with a smile. Alma was born in
Danville, Virginia to Clarence and Blanche Rock. Her parents and siblings moved to
Elizabethton, Tennessee in 1949 where she later married and started a family. In 1957
Jacksonville became her home and raised her two sons, Thomas Cody and Michael
Cody.
After retiring from her career as an EKG technician, she had the opportunity to travel the
world and visit six continents. She was a talented artist and loved to paint portraits of
family members, flowers, birds and beach scenes, just to name a few. Alma enjoyed
spending time at her neighborhood senior center (the “club”), playing games of all kinds,
making origami, and knitting blankets and hats for terminal babies. She stayed active
by being a very competitive member of the chair volleyball team until the age of 94.
She enjoyed Southern Gospel music and played it frequently.
Alma’s two priorities in life were spending time with her family and her relationship with
the Lord. She cherished every chance to get together with her family at pool parties,
beach picnics, family celebrations, and holidays. Alma was a devoted member of First
Baptist Church downtown until she was no longer able to attend in person. She was a
proud member of the “75 to Heaven” Sunday school class and continued her
faithfulness by watching the services on her iPad up until the last Sunday before being
hospitalized.
Alma is preceded in death by her beloved son, Michael Eugene Cody (Karen). She is
survived by her son, Thomas Cody (Shirley), five grandchildren Michael Cody II
(Regina), Heather Barber (Danny), Sara Jewett (Dana), Eric Cody, and Rebecca Dwyer
(Jacob), eight great-grandchildren Hayley, Danielle, Abigail, Julie, Jacob, Michael III,
Mikala, and Caden, as well her dear friend of 65 years to the end of her days, Ann
Oosterhoudt, and her daughter Cindi.
A celebration of life will be held at First Baptist Church downtown (West Hall) at 11:00
am Monday, November 18, 2024, 125 W. Ashley Street, Jacksonville, Florida, 32202
with Pastor Steve Clifton officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception
immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the First Baptist Church
Missions Ministry, 125 W. Ashley Street, Jacksonville, Florida, 32202.
