Elizabeth Ann Goodsell Cordray, 51 years old, of Jacksonville, FL, went to her heavenly home on July 11, 2021 at St. Vincent’s Riverside Hospital after a two week bout with Covid 19.
Beth was born in Fayetteville, NC to Gene S. and Dorothy Winther Goodsell on August 27, 1969. She graduated from James Madison High School, Vienna, VA in 1987. After a year at Lynchburg College in Virginia she joined the United States Navy where she achieved the rank of E3 as a Hospital Corpsman. Due to medical conditions Beth received an Honorable Discharge after three years of service. In the years that followed her service Beth worked in the healthcare field, veterinary medicine and as an Ombudsman to Navy families while raising her own three boys – her pride and joy! She enjoyed being a devoted homemaker and mom to her sons and assorted pets, crafting and music.
Beth is survived by her husband James L. Cordray of Jacksonville, FL; children, Jacob Holmes (Becca) of Nitro, WV, Zachary Holmes of Falls Church, VA, Nathanial Holmes of Chicago, Il, stepdaughter Skylar Cordray of Bonner Springs, KS; her parents ”Bud” and Gwen Goodsell of Winchester, TN; siblings, Kelley Weninger of Franklin, TN, Patrick (Tracey) Goodsell of Richmond, VA, and Gene “Rusty” Goodsell, III (Sarah) of Brentwood, TN; 6 nieces and nephews, a stepgrandson, a grandchild to be born in March and her beloved cats, Patch, Mouse and Hercules. Her biological mother, Dorothy A. Winther, her stepson, Shawn Cordray and all of her grandparents preceded her in death.
Beth loved her children passionately including three babies in heaven due to miscarriages. She also loved all animals and rescued many in her lifetime. Therefore, in lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made in honor of Elizabeth Goodsell Cordray to Franklin County Life Choices, a pregnancy support center at 66 Sunset Park, Winchester, TN 37398 or to your local no kill animal shelter.
A family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, VA, date to be determined.
