Obituary of Terrence Macdonald Muir

Terence Macdonald Muir of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on November 13, 2022. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on August 31, 1964 to Thomas Lester and Betty Barrett Muir. Terry graduated in the class of 1982 from Ridgeview High School and attended Georgia State University in Atlanta. In 1986, he enlisted in the US Navy and served for over 21 years on active duty, attaining the rating of Chief Petty Officer as an Information Systems Technician. Terry served over twelve years on sea duty in USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71); USS Simon Lake (AS-33); USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67); and with Commander, Naval Surface Force, Atlantic; as well as with Commander Destroyer Squadron 24. His shore duty included four years at the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington, DC, two years on the staff of Commander, Submarine Force, Atlantic; and a tour with Commander, Naval Computer and Telecommunications Command, Jacksonville, FL. He was twice awarded the Navy Commendation Medal and over the course of his career was awarded five Navy Achievement Medals, as well as numerous unit and campaign commendations and medals. Terry was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, starting in June of 2022 and most recently served as the club Treasurer until his passing. Terry adopted two dogs from the collie rescue in Florida, and cared for each of them lovingly. A sharp-witted man with habits of military discipline, he was also fun-loving, a good friend, and a devoted son. He lived according to his ideals of patriotism, honor, and tireless interest in the world. Terry was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by siblings and in-laws Maureen and Dan Hicks of Ellijay, Georgia; Tom and Sharona Muir of Perrysburg, Ohio; his nieces Katie Bennett of Cumming, Georgia and Ann Hicks of Suwanee, Georgia, two great-nieces, his dog, Cooper, numerous cousins, and many loved ones. A service of remembrance will be planned at a later date.
