Obituary of Melvin Samuel Harris Jr.
Please share a memory of Melvin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MELVIN SAMUEL HARRIS JR was born on March 9, 1968 and left this world on Dec. 31, 2020. He is survived by his mother, Catherine Short, brother Bill Harris, two daughters, Erica (Patrick) Stefanik of Denver, Colorado, and Kalin Napoli of Jacksonville, FL, and three grandchildren: Lynelle, Ozias and Sullivan, along with his former wife and friend Bernadette Harris, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Samuel Harris. His younger brother Milton Harris passed away in 2022.
Mel served in the US Military for 12 years, including two deployments to Kuwait. He loved his country and had a deep love of animals. He was a longtime parishioner of St. John’s Catholic Church in Atlantic Beach where he spearheaded the St Vincent De Paul program for many years. He was very much an advocate for those less fortunate. During the bulk of his career, Mel served as an air traffic control specialist for both the Navy and Army National Guard, and went on to specialize in computer electronics systems in the civilian sector.
He loved Jacksonville, and the Jaguars, and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
