YAHYA KARIM MUHAMMAD
DECEMBER 8, 1932 - FEBRUARY 11, 2021
On behalf of the Muhammad family, we announce Yahya Karim Muhammad passed away peacefully at home with family and under hospice care on Thursday, February 11, 2021. He was 88 years old and the eldest child of Moses Johnson and Maryam Muhammad.
He is predeceased by his parents, daughter Brenda and son Hasain, his sister Idella, and brothers David and Omar.
He is survived by his wife Shahidah, four children, sons Wafeeq, Mukhtar (Darlene), Omar and Rasheed (Regina), and daughter Sondra, and step-daughter Anita, one brother, Moses (Rhae) and two sisters, Sahirah and Elder Doris (Joseph); ten grandchildren, seven great-grand children; one great-great grand child, and his Aunt Nancy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Yahya also known to many as John, was originally from Silverstreet - Newberry South Carolina, but also lived in Trenton, Edgewater Park, and Camden New Jersey, as well as Columbia South Carolina, before retiring to Jacksonville, Florida. Along the way, as an entrepreneur and American Muslim Community leader, he led business ventures and community development initiatives in the transportation and retail industries before retiring in the interstate trucking industry.
Yahya was also a patriot, having served honorably in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict, as a signal corpsman.

The Salatul Jinaazah Honoring the Life of American Muslim Pioneer Al Hajj Yahya Karim Muhammad is scheduled on the Blessed Day of Salatul Jumah Friday, February 19, 2021 at 11 O’Clock a.m. when the family will receive friends and pray for Yahya at the Eternity Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel. Sheikh Bilal Malik of the Islamic Center of Northeast Florida and Imam Lateef Majied of the Jacksonville Masjid of Al-Islam, officiating, with interment to follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery with full military honors. Enroute for interment upon arrival at the National Cemetery, please keep to the right of the designated two lane procession.
