Obituary of Mary Ann McKay Bruda

Mary Ann McKay McClaskey Bruda died on June 7, 2021 after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Ann Fordham McKay and John Wilkes McKay of Winter Haven, Florida.
Born in Tampa, she grew up in Winter Haven, and graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1962. She attended Centre College of Kentucky, where she met her first husband. Mrs. Bruda has been active in her church and was a past President of the PTA at Ortega Elementary School. She was a former member of the Altar Guild at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church as well as being a chalice administer there. She had participated in Cursillo.
Mrs. Bruda was the former owner of Sassafras, an Avondale interior design and home accessories shop, and had held an active real estate license for twenty years. Along with her husband, she was a former member of Timuquana Country Club. She was an avid gardener and loved to read. She was also an Honorary Kentucky Colonel.
Mrs. Bruda is predeceased by her husband of 19 years, Jack Guild Bruda. She is survived by her sister and best friend Penny McKay Updike (John), of Babson Park, Florida and her brother John Mitchell McKay (Michelle), of Tallahassee, Florida. She was the mother of two daughters, Lisabeth McClaskey Bruce (David) of Larchmont, New York and Katherine McClaskey Hatfield (Beau) of Jacksonville, Florida. She had five adored grandchildren, Henry, William and Ellie Bruce and Grace and Cooper Hatfield.
A private memorial service will be held in the chapel at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Garden Club of Jacksonville.
