Joseph Zak passed away in Jacksonville, Florida on June 16, 2021 at the age of 82. He went home to be with Jesus, and his loved ones who had preceded him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Stanley Zak, his wife, Mary Zak, his sister Frances Absolon, his brothers Stanley Zak, Teddy Zak and Frederick Zax, his brother Lonnie Thomas and brother in law and best friend Wes Mills.
Joseph is survived by his daughter Jodawn (Stan) Gladden, his brothers Frank (Mary Lee) Zak, Nick (Dot) Zak and Allen Thomas, Sister in Law Betty Mills, Sister in Law Carol Zak, grandson Stanton James Anthony Gladden, Step Children Danny (Jenny) Adams, Chris Adams (Adrianne Brandt), Paul (Tracie) Adams, Debbie Adams, many step grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
Joseph was born March 20, 1939. He followed in his brothers footsteps and joined the Marine Reserves. He served 2 years in Hawai’i and was proud of every moment. He served in the Lakeshire police department from October 1972, until the mid-1980’s. He also served as a US Marshall and Bailiff at the federal courthouse in East St. Louis, Illinois until the early 2000’s.
Joseph will be remembered as a loving and devoted father, husband, brother, uncle and also as a dear friend to many.
A celebration of life service will be held in St. Louis, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Susan G. Komen foundation (1-877-Go Komen) or the Alzheimer’s foundation of America/Dementia Awareness (https://www.alz.org)
