Obituary of Claire Newsome

Claire A. Newsome of Jacksonville FL passed away August 1, 2021 at the age of 84. Claire was born in Springfield, MA in 1936. She joined the Women's Army Corps in March 1955. She got married in July 1956, was honorably discharged in August, and moved to Florida. She would eventually become a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Claire enjoyed helping people, mentoring children and being a school volunteer. She also did promoting and advertising as a member of the Jacksonville Shell Club. She worked in customer service most of her life, retiring from Vistakon after 20 years of service. Claire loved to cook, sing and crochet, making afghans and many baby blankets for family & friends. She is survived by her sons, Kim, Kevin (Julie) and daughter Kelly (Tony); grandchildren, Alex, Amber, Taylor (Jonathan) and Aspen; great grandchildren Ryleigh and Aden; sisters, Doris, Julie (Ray), Rita and Lucy. She was predeceased by her brother, Leo. A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 28, 2021, 11:30 am at St. Nicholas Park Christian Church, 3226 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207. The church asks that masks be worn. Memorial donations can be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
