Obituary of Shirley Ann Garvey

Shirley Ann Garvey, lately of Jacksonville, FL, died in her home August
16, 2021. Shirley Ann was born in Detroit, MI, on August 5th, 1932,
the daughter of James Clayton Finn and Zelma Neville Finn. She
married Joseph Alan Garvey on May 14, 1951, and they were married for 55
years until his decease.
She is predeceased by her loving husband Joseph Allen and son
Gregg David. She is survived by her children Gary Garvey (Julia Metz),
Diane Looker (Greg), Dana Garvey (Jonina Rice), daughter-in-law Janet
Henderson Garvey, five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren,
two great-great-grandchildren, and innumerable nieces and nephews
throughout the country. She loved her family fiercely and will be missed
by all of them.
She spent her career working as a Registered Nurse, Director of Nursing,
an administrator of nursing homes, and finally as a consultant assisting
facilities that were not in compliance with state and federal
guidelines.
She enjoyed many hobbies including: knitting, sewing, and beading and
was very active in a local bridge club. Sometimes playing 2 or 3 times a
week. Shirley Ann was an avid reader and belonged to a book club with
women that became some of her closest friends. But most of all, she
loved to travel. Living in Saudi Arabia with her husband for several
years presented her with the opportunity travel throughout Europe, the
middle and far East.
A memorial Mass for Shirley Ann will be held on Saturday, August 28th,
starting at 10 o’clock in the morning, at Church of the Messiah (3754
University Club Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32277). Family and Friends who
are unable to attend the memorial in person, may view the livestream of
the service at www.facebook.com/messiahcec.
