On behalf of the Muhammad family, we announce Taheerah Rasheedah Muhammad passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 13, 2021. She was 86 years old and the last remaining child of William and Tessie Taylor(Jones). She is predeceased by her parents, sister Helen, and brothers James, John and Isaac; her daughter Brenda, and son Hasain. She leaves to cherish her memory, four sons, Wafeeq, Mukhtar (Darlene), Omar and Rasheed (Regina); and daughter Sondra; ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was also known as Hajja Taheerah, denoting the honorific title bestowed upon one who has fulfilled the fifth and final pillar of the Islamic faith by completing the rites of Hajj (Pilgrimage) in the sacred precincts of Mecca. Hajja Taheerah was originally from Trenton, New Jersey, but also resided in Edgewater Park, and Camden New Jersey, Silverstreet-Newberry and Columbia South Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia, before retiring to Jacksonville, Florida. Along the way, as an entrepreneur, volunteer in the classroom, healthcare worker, and American Muslim Community leader, she helped lead business ventures and community development initiatives in the transportation and retail industries, supported private school education, and cared compassionately for the elderly, and mentally challenged and disabled children. In the final years of her life, she battled against the ravages of Alzheimer’s and dementia, and was in the care of her family at home with the support of hospice.
