Obituary of Sylvia Jean DeCosta On January 8, 2022, Sylvia Jean (Griffin) DeCosta went home to be with the Lord, our Savior, at the age of 86. Sylvia was born on June 30, 1935, in Dedham, MA. A few years after graduating high school, she relocated to Jacksonville, FL and married the love of her life, Toney DeCosta. They shared 59 adventurous years together and she missed him dearly. She was always ready with a new and interesting or funny story to share, and loved to tell them. She enjoyed being a homemaker, reading her Bible, and was an avid crafter in her leisure time. You could find her out and about with a crochet hook and a skein of yarn in hand, working on various projects. She was an active member of the Navy Wives Club of America and enjoyed attending meetings and functions over the years. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her husband, Toney Lee DeCosta, her father Bertram and mother Alberta. She is survived by her two children, Walter and Lea (Jeff) Gibson, her two grandchildren, Lane and Lacie, and her great grandchild, Saige, who will arrive in about 7 weeks. Sylvia will be laid to rest at the Jacksonville National Cemetery with her husband Toney.
