Obituary of Jimmy Strickland

Jimmy Strickland was born in Fernandina Beach on July 20,1946, to the late Clarence & Oner Crews Strickland. He left his earthly home on May 8, 2023, peacefully with his family by his side, to join his beloved family members. who preceded him. Jimmy was a life-long resident of Fernandina Beach, Fla. He witnessed the transformation of his hometown, that, once was a shrimping & mill community, to become a much sought after retirement & tourist area. While enjoying his early years on the island, his friends & family called him "SHUG." He was known for his love of fast & beautiful cars, which he spent many hours cleaning & shining them to perfection. Often as a teenager & young adult, he would be spotted circling the downtown dock area & the beaches. He was active in the construction business & he owned his own drywall business, employing his nephews & others. Jimmy was preceded in death by his late wife, Martha Ann Davis Strickland, 5 brothers, Lester Claude, Cecil, Jesse, & Milton Strickland & a sister, Doris Strickland Foster Appleton. He is survived by his sister, Kathleen Strickland Holloway of Fernandina Beach, his brother, Alvin Strickland of Patterson, Georgia, a daughter, Jenny Epperly of Yulee, Fla., two grandchildren, Corey Soper & Janee Epperly & two great grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at the Hughes Cemetery on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jeffery Strickland of Apalachicola ,Florida officiating the ceremony.
