I originally met Dan in 1975, when I became a student of his in martial arts at West Ga College. Over the years, he became a father- figure to me and I always reached out to him on Father's Day, to honor that, in addition to remaining in touch with him, until we last spoke on the Saturday before he died.
The saying, "I could write a book..." about the experiences we shared, the things I learned and how knowing him made a huge difference in my life, is an understatement.
I didn't expect him to pass so soon. Neither did he, by the conversations we had. And we were looking forward to August 23, for his chemo treatments to be over, so that he would be on the road to recovery, so that Wayne, his other close, long- time student and I could visit when the weather cooled off.
I'm not really in full acceptance of the fact that he's gone.
You will be missed, in a huge way, Dan.
